ABOUT KALARI
Parasurama, the 6th Avatar of Lord Mahavishnu, learned the art of Kalari from Lord Shiva and taught it to his 21 disciples and established 108 kalaris throughout Kerala.
The training practices is conducted in an enclosure of precise dimensions, 42 feet by 21 feet. The entrance faces the east. ‘Poothara’, a seven tiered platform, which houses the guardian deities of the Kalari, situated at the southwest corner. The seven steps indicates the seven abilities that every person should acquire and also said to represent the seven chakras or wheels of power embedded in the subtle body of humans. That are Strength – Vigneswara, Patience – Chamundi, Commanding power – Vishnu, Expression – Kali, Training – Tadaagura, Posture – Vadugashcha
